On the EdgeCurve Camera

How far over the limit do you dare?

One thumb, one curve a day. Hold to speed up, let go over the limit, and the camera flashes you at the apex: a clean line by a whisker, or a flight worth a photo. Every mistake gets a ticket, and every ticket is a link.

On the Edge artwork from real runs: the Curve Camera's viewfinder with a small teal car upside down in the air at 232 km/h, a phone screen of the same car sliding sideways through the canyon at 141 km/h, and a printed ticket stamped FLASHED! reading 233 km/h, offence LOITERING AT ALTITUDE, SEND IT 210 m × 2 × 91% = 382, fine: a stern look from a passing eagle.

How it works

Ten seconds. One decision.

Every day there's one curve with a speed limit. Hold to speed up. Let go, and your speed is locked: too little and you crawl round for nothing, too much and you leave the road. The nerve is the whole game.

  1. The first screen: the canyon road at dusk, a small teal car with a yellow roof hoop, the day's limit, and HOLD TO GO.

Hold to goToday's curve, its limit, your thumb.

  2. The approach: the speed climbing past 175 km/h against a limit of 90, the curve ahead.

Let goYour speed locks the moment you lift. Then the curve decides.

  3. The Curve Camera's viewfinder: REC, 232 km/h, the car upside down in the air over the pink canyon wall, TAP TO FLASH.

Tap to flashOff the road, the Curve Camera tracks you. Snap the flight at its best moment.

  4. The flash: the viewfinder goes white and FLASHED! is stamped across the photo.

FLASHED!The camera fires. Clean lines get flashed at the apex too.

  5. The ticket prints: the photo, 233 km/h, the offence LOITERING AT ALTITUDE, the SEND IT sum, and the buttons AGAIN and SEND THE TICKET.

The ticketPrints in a second. AGAIN is the big button. SEND is the other one.

The tickets

A game, not a fine.

The Curve Authority writes up exactly what happened, deadpan. A clean line scores your speed. A flight scores SEND IT: metres flown × (1 + flips) × the photo. The offence is chosen by what you did; the fine is never money.

A ticket stamped FLASHED!: the car upside down in the photo, 233 km/h, offence LOITERING AT ALTITUDE, recorded speed 232.5 km/h against a limit of 90, airborne 3.3 s, 1 flip, 210 m flown, photo 91%, SEND IT 210 m × 2 × 91% = 382, also unlicensed aviation and leaving the road without indicating, driver UNLICENSED HERON, fine: a stern look from a passing eagle.
A flight233 into a 90. One flip, 210 metres, a 91% photo: SEND IT 382. Fine: a stern look from a passing eagle.
A ticket stamped FLASHED!: the car on the road at the apex, 119 km/h, offence EXCEEDING THE CURVE, on the edge 2.9 m, CLEAN LINE 119.4 km/h, driver UNLICENSED HERON, fine: one (1) raised eyebrow.
A clean line119 into a 90, 2.9 metres from the edge. Your speed is your score. Fine: one raised eyebrow.
A drift ticket stamped FLASHED!: the car sideways in tyre smoke, 144 km/h, offence EXCESSIVE STYLE, 173 m sideways at 26°, whole curve YES, DRIFT 173 m × 26° ÷ 10 × 2 whole curve = 900, also drifting without a permit, fine: tyre smoke, to be returned to the canyon.
A drift173 metres sideways at 26°, the whole curve: DRIFT 900. Fine: tyre smoke, to be returned to the canyon.

Every ticket is a link. Your friend gets a five-second replay of your run that ends on your ticket, then YOUR TURN on the same curve. No signup on their side either. Drivers are aliases the game makes up, never names.

Drift mode: the car sliding sideways through the curve at 141 km/h, tyre smoke behind it, the live readout DRIFT 57 31°, and the line HOLD TO SLIDE · LET GO TO CATCH IT.
Drift · in testing

The second way round

Hold to slide. Let go to catch it.

Same thumb, same curve, a different question: not how fast, but how sideways. Hold in the curve and the back of the car steps out; let go and the tyres catch it. Too little angle and you slide off the edge; too much and you spin. The score is sideways metres × angle, doubled if you slide the whole curve.

Drift opens after your first clean line or your fifth run. It's on the test build now and comes to the live game once it has been played on real phones.

Your driving record: today's bests (a clean line at 119.4 km/h, SEND IT 382, DRIFT 900), the camera's remarks, and the list of 21 offences, most still marked 'not yet'.

Your driving record keeps your bests and every offence you've collected. There are 21, four of them secret. The camera also has remarks.

Today's curve is waiting.

One thumb. Hold to go. Let go over the limit.
